Visas and Passports
All Visitors to New Zealand

Passport
To visit New Zealand you must carry a passport that is valid for at least three
months after the date you leave the country.

Proof you can leave New Zealand
You must prove that you have the means to leave New Zealand before your
Visitor Permit expires. Suitable proof is a confirmed or open-dated travel
ticket out of New Zealand, or enough money to buy a ticket out.

Proof that you have enough money
You must prove that you have enough money to support yourself during your
stay. This means NZ$1000 per person per month, or NZ$400 per person
per month if accommodation has already been paid for (proof of prepayment
required).

Australian Citizens and Residents

Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport, and Australian
Residents with a current Australian resident return visa issued by the
Commonwealth of Australia, do not need a visa to enter New Zealand and
can stay indefinitely.

British citizens and other British passport holders

British citizens and other British passport holders who produce evidence of
the right to reside permanently in the UK can visit for up to six months
without a visa.

If you are from a country in the list below you will not need a visa if you are
visiting for three months or less (but see
Notes). You will need a visa for
longer than three months.

New Zealand embassy before coming to New Zealand. Countries whose

Longer Stays

Longer than six months
Each applicant who intends to stay in New Zealand for more than 6 months
and who has
risk factors for TB is required to complete (and submit with
their application) a
Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate.

Longer than twelve months
All applicants who intend to stay in New Zealand longer than 12 months is
required to complete (and submit with their application) a
Medical and Chest
X-ray Certificate.

A leaflet (NZIS 1133) to help you complete the Medical and Chest X-ray
Certificate is available as a .PDF download in
English, Thai, Vietnamese,
Korean, Japanese, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Tuvaluan,
Tongan, Samoan, Fijian, and Gilbertese.

Medical examinations or chest X-rays for your immigration application must
be certified by a doctor and/or radiologist from the Immigration New Zealand
's approved worldwide list of
Panel Doctors .

Twenty-four months or longer
If you are coming to New Zealand for 24 months or longer you'll have to
provide police certificates as evidence of your good character if you are over
17 years old.

Immigration New Zealand will need certificates from your country of
citizenship (unless you can prove you never lived there)
and, if you are applying for residence: any country you have been in for 12
months or more in the last 10 years, whether in one or more visits. If you are
already in New Zealand, for example, under our Work to Residence category,
this includes obtaining a police certificate from the New Zealand police;
or if you are applying for a temporary entry visa and/or permit:
any country you have lived in for 5 or more years since turning 17.
